1) What big ideas did you get from watching it?
There is a young man that noticed all of this horrible fighting and war and was very frustrated with the fact that no body's doing anything about it so what he did was he started making a video and then suddenly noticed, there is no day for peace. That was the moment he decided to make a peace day. It was official and in the video it showed how peace day has helped people around the world.
2) Why is peace so important?Peace is important because without i t people grow without respect for others, no happiness and lives are ruined, and not just in a small way but even to the point where people are losing lives. Without peace people aren't going to stop killing, war and really making problems in other countries and families.
3) What are the links between peace and development?
Yes, because if someone were to try to develop a country this cant be done without peace for example; somebody were to try to help make a village better, this wont work if people are shooting at the person helping. There is a big similarity between peace and development.
4) What are the hidden costs of war? (Sometimes they aren't so 'hidden' - but often they aren't monetary costs).
War around the world is really effecting innocent people around the world without a good reason. And children fighting in war (armed with weapons as well). Peace day has helped with aid supplies, mosquito nets, unity that saves lives, injections are giving ( 1.4 million in Afghanistan in 2009) giving people everywhere relief.
On the 15th of September, our Global Issues class had an assembly based on Peace! We had a video about peace and a small clip of Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Chemelic made a speech that was very heartfelt and it had been about the way ISKL has their own goals and peace around the school. Afterwards the students took a minute of silence to think about how grateful we are for what we have and our advantages. A few of the student in the Global Issues made a poem and speeches. Everyone in the theater were very quiet and since they had time to think about the unfortunate people in different countries, people were in a very serious mood. Suddenly music turns on and my class begins to dance. It was very fun, the whole middle school joined in and we all had a wonderful time.
